The Mexico City leg of the Global circuit evokes sweet memories of Italy: last year, Emanuele Camilli, riding Chacco's Girlstar, won the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix there, one of the most important successes of our rider's career.
But the Tour Grand Prix is scheduled for Sunday (and Emanuele Camilli will not be competing), while yesterday was the turn of the Global Champions League stage. And the Italian joys were renewed…! Yes, because the race was won by St. Tropez Pirates, fielding not only Kaitlin Campbell on Karius but also Piergiorgio Bucci on Pallieter van de N. Ranch, who scored a 4-0 that, combined with the American rider's 0-0, gave the team the victory.
Indeed, to be precise, it was our rider's very fast run in the second heat that gave the team the victory, thus keeping the pursuers at a safe distance: with 4 total penalties, in fact, Istanbul Warriors, Basel Cosmopolitans and New York Empire also finished.
A duel down to the wire, then, magnificently resolved by the Campbell/Bucci duo. An even more significant result considering that St. Tropez Pirates now leads the League's overall standings: after only two games, sure, but in the meantime, Piergiorgio Bucci and his teammates are up there for the moment.
