Denis Lynch rules Longines Grand Prix of Hong Kong

Denis Lynch looked for a moment like he could hardly believe he had won the 2019 Longines Grand Prix of Hong Kong. But there it was displayed on the big screen behind him

Hong Kong, February 17, 2019 – Denis Lynch looked for a moment like he could hardly believe he had won the Longines Grand Prix of Hong Kong. But there it was displayed on the big screen behind him.

“I never see myself as a favourite,” explained Lynch. “This is a new horse for our stable so I am over the moon. I’m just very, very proud of this horse.”

Lynch had the 12-year-old stable newcomer flying with a final round clocked in at 39.35, and that well clear of those chasing him, with Frenchman Simon Delestre and Uccello de Will (47.07) in second – the only other pair to have two clear rounds – and Swiss Pius Schwizer and About A Dream (38.56) third.

It was a thrilling end to a thrilling three days of action inside the AsiaWorld-Expo arena and the packed crowd looked as though the last things they wanted to do was to leave.

“The course designer today did an amazing job, as you could see as there was only two clears,” said Lynch. “It was exciting for us and for the fans and they really get behind you here in Hong Kong. What they are doing here is growing every year. The crowd just go with you [over the jumps] and that’s very nice.”
