Olympic Showjumper Tim Stockdale Has Passed Away

London (GBR), November 14, 2018 – Olympic showjumper Tim Stockdale has passed away at the age of 54. Tim’s death comes after a short battle with cancer having been diagnosed early October. Tim represented Team GB at the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008 and was the highest placed British rider with Corlato. 

He began riding at the age of seven and was part of the Grove Hunt Pony Club branch. He started his professional career working with Olympian Mike Saywell and went on to work with a number of other top names from the showjumping world. 

In 1988 Tim made his international debut and he went on to compete for Great Britain at three senior championships and more than fifty Nations Cup. His first senior championship appearance came at the 2002 World Equestrian Games aboard Fresh Direct Parcival.

Tim secured many major wins on the British circuit including the 2002 Grand Prix at Horse of the Year Show on Fresh Direct Parcival and 2007 Royal Windsor Grand Prix with Fresh Direct Corlato. In 2010 he won the King George V Gold Cup at Hickstead, fulfilling a life-long dream with Fresh Direct Kalico Bay. 

He competed on the international circuit up until September this year, prior to his diagnosis.

As well as his exceptional riding career, Tim was also a highly respected trainer and figure within the sport.

He served as Chef d’Equipe for the winning British team at the Abu Dhabi leg of the Nations Cup in 2010, acted as a Board Director for British Showjumping and chaired the British Showjumping Marketing and Commercial committee from 2004 to 2007. Tim was also a long standing member of the International & Performance Committees, an Ambassador for the British Showjumping National Championships and also a long standing committee member for Olympia Horse Show for show organisers Horsepower.

In April 2010 he was presented with the British Equestrian Federation’s Medal of Honour at the British Open Showjumping Championships in recognition of outstanding services to equestrian sport.

A private funeral for family and close friends is to be held in Northamptonshire. A memorial event to celebrate his life and achievements will take place at a later date.
